Stage 3 Baby Food: French Toast Recipe

French Toast for Breakfast
So far your baby is getting bigger and bigger every day and is no longer the same wee little one of a few months back. French Toast is an excellent choice to expand your baby’s experience of food.
Everything your precious little one sees or hears makes them curious, and the next step is to “Learn”. At this stage they are trying to feed themselves, their little fingers have become their spoon and they enjoy playing with their food. They love feeding themselves and making mess while in their high chair. This means they are ready for Stage 3 Baby Food.
This time, we would like to give you a different kind of recipe. It’s still a baby food recipe but what makes this one different is that “it’s a special breakfast recipe”. We are trying to be very thoughtful and different each time we introduce new tastes to your baby. The recipe we came up with this time is an easy French Toast recipe.
French toast recipes always seem to add sugar, honey or maple syrup. Honey should be excluded from a babies diet until they are 12 months old. So we are going to forget about honey and look for a “honey alternative” for their special breaky. We choose to sweeten with apple juice instead of sugar or honey. Fruit juice is always the best for our little darling.
- Make bite sized (approx. 1 ½ cm) 10 cubes of unsalted soft bread (Removed crispy crust)
- 1 medium egg
- 25 ml of apple juice
- 8g of unsalted butter
- Selection of your child’s favorite fruit (apple, blueberries, grapes or pear)
- ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
The egg should be beaten until it has a nice fluffy consistency. Next you need to add cinnamon and the apple juice and beat further. Melt the butter in a non-stick pan. Dip the bread cubes in the egg mixture. Be careful not to not soak the bread for too long as it will become soggy. Do a test cook with one cube to make sure everything is going to plan. The rest of the cubes can then be placed in the pan and cooked until each side is a lovely golden color. Baby toast is ready to be eaten.
The theme of your blog is very good to me
I love the idea of cutting up the bread into cubes to cook it. I do it a little differently but this works just as well… take the bread and cook it like you normally would without cutting it up and when it is done put it on the cutting board and cut it into cubes using a pizza cutter wheel. The pieces come out perfect.
