Stage 1 Baby Food: Rice Cereal Recipe

Rice

Rice Cereal, Baby’s First Solids

Traditionally, the average American mom tends to begin with baby rice when they introduce the first solid food to their baby. It is simply because rice, being a single-grain, is easy to cook, nutritious, tasty and easily digestible. Excellent choice for stage 1 baby food.

When it comes to baby rice cereals there are two options. You can either use store-bought (Iron and Zinc fortified) infant cereals or make a homemade baby rice powder. Since we are huge fans of homemade baby foods, we happily go with the second option. Making baby rice cereals at home is as easy as 3 simple steps.

Alright, let’s get the food ready!

Step 1

Grind 2 tbs of brown rice in a baby food grinder till it becomes powdery.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, mix a half cup of water or breast milk/formula milk to the brown rice powder you just grinded.

Step 3

Simmer and stir constantly for 12 to 15 minutes. Check the consistency. If needed, you can always add extra liquid to moisten it.

That’s it, moms.

Notes

Although you can use any kind of rice such as Jasmine rice or white rice, we are using brown rice for healthier alternative. If you are using store-bought baby rice such as Gerber Baby, you can follow either the direction on the package or step 2 and step 3 to cook.
